Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is an automatic identification method, relying on storing and remotely retrieving data using devices called tags. RFIDs are broadly similar to bar codes; however they do not have to be scanned visually since they rely on Radio Frequency for reading.

The ESTIIC-RFID4SME project was partially founded by INTEREG III C with the aim to assist SMEs in each of the four participating ESTIIC regions to gain a competitive advantage by facilitating them in their learning and understanding of the benefits and risks associated with emerging RFID technologies.

During the project, several demonstration projects of RFID were developed in collaboration with regional SMEs from a variety of sectors.
