Advanced Engineering
Description: The CTC designs and analyses components and also designs prototypes and test benches with the use of advanced tools.
Application: Pressure equipment and new production methods
Sector: Industrial and energy
Designing/analysis of industrial components
Description: Analysis of the structural integrity of state-of-the-art reactors under the design codes ASME, RCC-M, Eurocode, and FEM. Analysis by the finite elements method.
Application: The work carried out has contributed towards the details and the manufacture of components for III and IV generation reactors and of spare parts for components for II generation reactors. The CTC has analysed structures and components subjected to dynamic loads owing to transport, accidents, and attack. Two research projects have developed algorithms in order to analyse residual stress and permanent deformations owing to welding processes.
Sector: Energy and military
Pressure vessels, exchangers
Description: Analyses of integrity and structural reliability according to rules and methods established to guarantee the security and operation requirements during the service life specified for a component or the behaviour of structures subjected to various types of requirement and environmental conditions of operation. The analyses consist of material resistance calculations and heat transfer calculations which require engineering expertise and strict compliance with the codes.
Application: Pressure equipment
Sector: Industrial and energy
Load design/design codes for certificates
Description: The designing of equipment depending on loads and according to rules and methods established to guarantee the security and operation requirements during the service life specified for a component or the behaviour of structures subjected to various types of requirement and environmental conditions of operation.
Application: Pressure equipment
Sector: Energy and industrial
Designing prototypes for improving productive processes
Description: The CTC designs and develops prototypes of machines which allow the improvement of productive processes.
Application: Processes of metallic construction and the strengthening of load-bearing elements of civil engineering
Sector: Industry, buildings, and construction
Test benches for prototypes
Description: The CTC designs and delivers test benches that allow the carrying out of machine viability tests and productive processes. The machinery of the benches allows the arranging of the cyclic loads remotely, the conditioning of the medium, and the carrying out of the practical operations of the assembly, disassembly, insertion, and extraction of parts.
Application: Metallic construction processes
Sector: Industry
Analysis of fluid dynamics
Description: The study, optimisation, and improvement of equipment by means of computational fluid dynamics
Application: Pressure equipment, tanks, machines, industrial heating and cooling systems
Sector: Energy and industrial
Optimisation (reactors, tanks, pipes)
Description: The use of computational fluid dynamics to analyse the heat transfer processes and the dynamic behaviour of fluids
Application: Increased flow and reduction of load loss in pressure equipment, tanks, and pipes
Sector: Energy and industrial
Improving the mixing of fluids
Description: The analysis of currents, the concentration of reagents, and the concentration of products by means of computational fluid dynamics
Application: Reactors and projection tools
Sector: Industry
Air and water dynamics of turbines
Description: The use of computational fluid dynamics to analyse fields of pressure on blades and fluid current lines
Application: The improvement of turbines, propellers, and wind turbines
Sector: Energy
Solutions v. degradation/corrosion
Description: The study of degradation phenomena
Application: The projection of the service life and the protection of components
Sector: Energy and industrial
Materials and coatings
Description: The development of new formulae for materials and protective coatings to extend the life of the components
Application: The protection and extension of components subjected to loads and harsh environments
Sector: Energy, industry, coatings, textiles, composites, and construction
Fatigue, wear, fracture mechanics
Description: The application of the knowledge of degradation phenomena
Application: The study of the risk of the degradation of the components
Sector: Energy and industrial
