Degradation and corrosion of materials require protection and mitigation solutions in order to optimize durability and life cycle of the components. To study it, the CTC has developed a corrosion and metallographic laboratory where tests are performed for materials characterization. It assesses how it affects the behaviour of materials and coatings in artificially generated atmospheres (under ISO, NORSOK and ASTM test standards) and in real environment under climatic agents (either in marine environment or air).
For the mitigation of these phenomena, the laboratory can advise you to select the appropriate coating and protective system against corrosion/degradation and the protection ability of the solution. In the research of coatings, it has been recently investigated the application of nanotechnology to improve their properties (corrosion and UV resistance, self-healing, hydrophobic, intumescent…)
