The CTC Technology Centre is leading the validation of the solutions developed within the DATAWISE project at the Spanish pilot buildings, Universidad Isabel I and the Abba Hotel in Burgos. This phase is critical to ensure that the tools designed during this European research project are properly deployed and perform as expected in real operating environments.

Desireé Ruiz, Project Manager in CTC’s Industry and Energy area, presented the progress achieved in this work during the latest Plenary Meeting of the initiative, which aims to define an advanced solution capable of integrating any data source into an AI-managed Open BIM digital twin
The centre is working closely with the teams responsible for the project’s different services, including energy optimisation, comfort, predictive maintenance and building resilience. In parallel, CTC maintains ongoing coordination with VBE6D, which is in charge of developing and maintaining the BIM layer and providing the structured information on building components, systems and equipment required for the integration of the solutions.

At the same time, CTC is in permanent contact with end users to adapt the tools to their real needs and support uptake. Over the coming months, it will also work closely with the developers of the project’s different services to ensure that the solutions respond appropriately to those needs, integrate correctly into the pilots and remain easy to use. This support-driven approach is one of the keys to ensuring that the project results do not remain at the stage of technological development, but translate into practical operational improvements for the pilot sites and future application environments
During this period, CTC will also advance in the measurement and monitoring of the main key performance indicators associated with the pilots, including energy consumption, sustainability, economic impact, comfort and building operability. This data collection will establish a robust baseline that, once the project solutions are implemented, will make it possible to compare outcomes, assess the level of improvement achieved and ensure the success of the intervention in real-world conditions.

Sixteen partners from seven European countries are working on this innovative project, which will help optimise aspects such as building flexibility and thermal management, energy forecasting, smart sustainability, occupant comfort and the preventive assessment of building risks and lifecycle performance. The solutions developed will be validated in different European real-life environments, including the Spanish pilots, several educational buildings in Mārupe, Latvia, and several buildings in Stanz im Mürztal, Austria.
CTC, together with the Cantabrian company VBE6D, Fundación CIRCE and Universitat Politècnica de València, is one of the four Spanish partners in a consortium led by CERTH, the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas, based in Thessaloniki, Greece.
This €5 million research project is largely based on the integration and exploitation of data related to building performance. To this end, it will test a data-based management toolkit (DBPM) and an AI-enhanced life-cycle data-driven decision support platform (LD2S).
