The MooringSense project drives the organisation of an international workshop on offshore wind energy

MooringSense, the European project led by the CTC Technology Centre, was one of the initiatives that led to EERA JP WIND organising the workshop called “Ongoing research in offshore wind structure” as a bonus to its Annual Event. Along with the European WaterEye project, the meeting highlighted the various research projects being carried out on offshore wind energy, aiming to boost the use of this renewable energy.

During the workshop, the MooringSense consortium made seven presentations in which they explained the project’s mission, the objectives achieved so far and the current development of the initiative. The partners also had the chance to present in further detail the project and the benefits to be achieved in floating offshore wind with the implementation of MooringSense.

Specifically, Petar Jankovic, Manager of the Navigation and Robotics area and new addition to the Cantabrian centre’s professional team, focused his presentation on the use of intelligent GNSS sensors to monitor the mooring state lines of floating platforms.

The meeting was also a significant opportunity to learn about other initiatives in offshore wind and gain insight into how advanced research in this field is.

“Ongoing research in offshore wind structure” is the first workshop organised by the MooringSense consortium, a meeting that has been well received by around fifty companies, technology centres and universities. The event was hybrid, so to speak, with an on-site part organised from Amsterdam and another adapted for online viewing for those who could not travel.

The European Energy Research Alliance JP WIND programme aims to provide strategic leadership for wind energy research and support European industry and societal stakeholders. The programme brings together all the public research organisations in Europe that are making significant efforts in the field of wind energy.
