Navigation Systems and Self-Driving Cars
More and more applications now require knowledge of the position, speed, and orientation of a mobile system. The mission of navigation systems is to estimate these parameters in the most precise and reliable way possible. In order to do so, different technologies and sensors are used depending on the requirements of each application. Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and inertial sensor technology MEMS play an essential role in the development of these systems and in the improvement of their performance.
The CTC specialises in the development of GNSS multi-antenna and multi-receiver systems for calculating 3D orientation (Roll, Pitch, and Yaw) and in that of hybrid navigation systems in which information from various sensor types is fused.
Orientation calculations and precise positioning
Description: The CTC has considerable experience in applications based on GNSS (GPS, GLONASS, and GALILEO). It has developed different algorithms to obtain positioning solutions with centimetre accuracy (PPP algorithms) or algorithms capable of obtaining 3D orientation (roll, pitch, and yaw angles) based on multi-antenna systems. At the CTC we are experts in obtaining solutions based on low-cost sensors implemented in embedded systems with high computational and consumption restrictions.
Applications: Precise positioning systems, self-driving cars, infrastructure monitoring, topography
Sector: Maritime, Aviation
Navigation and guiding
Description: Navigation systems allow the guiding of a person, a vehicle, or a robot within an environment, generally with obstacles. Guiding, Navigation, and Control (GNC) systems involve different technologies such as the designing and planning of missions, the planning of paths, and tracing, mapping, detection, and avoiding obstacles.
Applications: Self-driving cars, Locating people, Traceability
Sector: Industry 4.0, Aerospace, Military Defence
Modelling and integration of sensors
Description: We model and integrate sensors by data fusion
